| "The Chicago Chapter of the USGBC hosts an open forum to explore the methods, programs, organizations and resources available to encourage sustainable housing. This event is being held both in the city of Chicago Thursday evening and in the suburbs on Friday morning. The panel discussion and Chapter Business meeting will be exactly the same with the intent on giving attendees located in the Chicagoland area an opportunity to attend at the venue that is most conveniently close to them.
The panel features members from the NAHB (Bill Styczynski), Energy Star (Jim Cavallo), USGBC (Mike Holcomb) the Chicago Green Home Program (Anthony Corso/Thursday and Meghann Maves/Friday) and will be moderated by Jim Hackler. The main topics of discussion will be to: +Understand the variety of approaches to sustainable housing. +Foster cooperation and education among the different groups advocating green homes. +Remove market barriers and increasing demand for sustainable housing. The forum is not an endorsement of a single approach - but it's hoped will lead to an inclusive strategy to bring more sustainable housing to the Chicago area. The moderator, Jim Hackler, brings a balanced approach to the discussion as a journalist covering environmental issues for GreenBuilder, Natural Home and Delta Sky magazines. He's also served as the head of two of the country's leading green building initiatives (USGBC's LEED for Homes and the Greater Atlanta HBA's EarthCraft House)." Tickets will be $30 for members of the USGBC and/or a local HBA; $40 for non-members. A $10 increase will occur after the late registration date of May 20th Upcoming Residential Green Building Programs: May 1st CAF (Chicago Architecture Foundation) presentation co-sponsored with the Chicago Center for Green Technology on solar hot water and heating – more info @ www.architecture.org/programs.html May 20th (for the RGB Committee) – Insulation methods May 22nd Panel Discussion about how to promote residential green building featuring presenters from the city of Chicago, NAHB (or a local HBA), Energy Star, and the USGBC in the evening @ the Chicago Center for Green Technology in the city, moderated by Jim Hackler.
